How one of Gannett's top sales producers, Jackie Meddles, went from skeptic to Salesforce CRM convert with help from Baker Communications' adoption play.
Jackie Meddles is one of Gannett's top-rated sales makers, having been named a finalist for top sales executive two years running. In light of her success, it is understandable that she might be skeptical of her need to adopt another sales tool, so when Gannett began rolling out Salesforce CRM to their entire national sales team, Pam Malloy — Baker Communications' Play Operations Project Manager for the Gannett Salesforce CRM adoption play — had a challenge on her hands.
"Jackie was one of my toughest adopters," explained Malloy. "She just did not see any need in wasting her time learning another tool." However, Pam persevered and gradually Jackie began to realize that Salesforce CRM could provide a real boost to her productivity.
"My energy level went up as I forced myself to use it and began seeing that it can help me," said Meddles. "I felt like Pam understood me and was empathetic. I am a fan of the mobile version of Salesforce CRM, because I am out a lot. Now that I have one work phone, I am not doubling the work. I like everything streamlined, and having my calendar and tasks in one place. I thought I was organized, but I had follow-up notes on different pads of paper, in the cash report, files, sticky notes, and through emails. So it is nice to have one place to go for everything."
"It took me a while to put even one opportunity in, but now that I am used to it, it is nice (and quick and easy) to have a place to go where I can see all pipeline opportunities. I am late in the game, but I am in the game."
And Meddles adds this note to other future skeptics: "My advice for future students would be this — trust your management. They purchased the tool for a reason. It is to help us and it won't go away. So force yourself through it if that's what you have to do. And once you do, you'll see the benefits of it and thank them later."
