Process Problems

Process Problems! Welcome to the Monday Morning Minute! Each week, we’re talking about a simple, effective habit that can boost our productivity and enhance the quality of our work. However hard we work and however carefully we plan, there always seem to be things that slip through the cracks.  If there’s an issue or a task that isn’t being handled, or at least not very well, it may be time to consider whether there’s a problem with the process. Let’s consider: Is there a process? If there isn’t one, or if no one has been given responsibility for handling the issue, it’s pretty obvious what we need to correct! Is the process broken? What if the current strategy for handling the issue simply doesn’t work? Look at the available resources, the workflow, and the execution.  Does the process make sense, or are revisions needed? Who owns it? Sometimes the wrong people assume ownership of a task, or it gets assigned to a person or group when it should belong to someone else. Are the people assigned to the task well-suited, and does it make sense for them to own it? Taking the time to create an effective process for the task, secure the necessary resources, and assign the right people to do it will increase efficiency – and save time and hassle for everyone in the long term.  Tackle your process problems today!
